François Rénier Paris celebrated its 20th anniversary in true creative style
Last Thursday, 18 October, François Rénier Paris celebrated its 20 years in business. The event was held in his very first boutique at 6 rue des Saussaies in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The day was turned over to fun and creativity.
… from the object to a luxury bag
François Rénier initially worked as a producer of handcrafted luxury objects and then moved on to enter the world of fine leather craft. His striking entrance to this new world in 1988 at the “Première Classe” show was with a pleated paper bag fitted with eyelets sporting a pair of crocodile handles. Leather, fabric, fun fur and technical material alternatives followed in the wake of the ground-breaking paper bag that started the brand’s history.
It was through the interchangeable handles that François Rénier created a unique concept… and a powerful personalization tool. Then the brand broadened the concept beyond the handles and gave its customers the leeway to choose the outer materials, colour and inner pouch. The idea seemed simple enough but was radical 20 years ago.
“The brand has adapted to trends and progress in women’s expectations yet retained its timeless style. More than ever before every woman wants a bag that expresses her being. Being able to create it for herself is a unique way of having fun while asserting her personality” François Rénier points out.
Creativity born of playfulnes
Journalists and bloggers went out of their way to join in on the 20th anniversary François Rénier Paris celebrations… just the right opportunity to feature the “Gondole” handbag centre-stage – a full-grain calfskin bag, with its inner pouch and matching shoulder strap. Three totally interchangeable elements, that bloggers @Chloe_francois_, @theparisienne, @bouchine et @Goldenblog were able to experiment with for themselves.
The experience is fun and absorbing. The brand calls on every client to give full rein to her creative side in the boutique, when she can touch the materials, try out different combinations until she finds the item she has always yearned for – the handbag that she’ll wear in the evening, during the day, the one that will give her the best feel-good factor.
A brand that perpetually reinvents itself
François Rénier Paris extends the innovation trail with a collection of accessories. bag jewellery in the form of pompons, the Eiffel Tower, cashmere scarves and so on. The brand is forever coming up with features that meet the personalisation needs of its clients and goes further still by meeting the need to own a luxury item.
Ever-creative, the brand comes up with printed shoppers and zipped bags, or striped, braided, fun-fur. Bags that can be combined with full-grain leather handles, or textile or even rubber if you prefer.
Now, François Rénier Paris has broadened its territory beyond the French capital with more than 25 points of sale across the globe and distribution agreements primarily in Japan, Italy, Paraguay, the Netherlands and destinations beyond.
20 years after Un Jour Un Sac took its first outing, more than two million items have been sold worldwide. To bring this twentieth year to an end, François Rénier Paris is preparing to bring out its iconic paper bag again. However, this bag will have moved on with the times as it will be made from recyclable material – Kraft paper
